Report: Clinton Renting Space in Brooklyn for Campaign

Hillary Clinton has reportedly leased two floors of a Brooklyn office building called 1 Pierrepont Plaza for what will be the headquarters for her presidential campaign according to a person who is familiar with the reported deal.

The reported agreement puts Clinton’s political hub at the edge of Brooklyn Heights and the civic center, only a short ride on the subway from Manhattan.

The person describing the lease requested anonymity since they are not authorized to speak publicly about it.

By signing the lease, Clinton is effectively starting the clock on when she will have to file her candidacy papers with the U.S. Federal Election Commission, All prospective office holders only have 15 days from starting to engage in activities related to campaign to register with the committee.

It was not clear when the agreement for the lease was signed or what entity had been listed as the new tenant, but Clinton is expected to announce she will run for the Democratic presidential nomination in the next few days.

Amongst other tenants in the building are Morgan Stanley and Loretta Lynch a U.S. attorney for the Eastern District in New York and a nominee for President Obama for attorney general.

The building, like many office buildings in this area, is owned by the Forest City Ratner Companies. The chairman of that company, Bruce Ratner has been a prolific donor to the Democratic Party. He was the developer of the Barclays Center.

Clinton has considered another property only blocks away also owned by Forest City, but the building she decided on might have had an unfair advantage, it is bounded to its west by Clinton Street.

Clinton, former U.S. Senator from New York and the U.S. Secretary of State under President Obama ran unsuccessfully for the presidential nomination in 2008 against Obama. This year no other candidates from the Democrats have announced officially, they will run for the presidential nomination.
