For just the first time the word impeachment has been mentioned over President Obama’s involvement in the alleged cover-up regarding the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.

Conservative Senator Jim Inhofe a Republican from Oklahoma and Michael Tomasky a columnist with Newsweek magazine both mentioned the “I” word.

Inhofe was on the Rusty Humphries radio show on Thursday and he called the Benghazi incident the greatest American cover-up in the history of the country.

On Friday, during the show Now, broadcast by MSNBC, Tomasky responded to a suggestion that the political knives of the Republicans were out to get Hillary Clinton the former U.S. Secretary of State in advance of the presidential election of 2016, by saying that the Benghazi incident could reach into the White House and take out it current resident.

He continued by saying that the hearings on Benghazi could point to impeachment and would remain that way as long as the House is controlled by the Republicans.

It is very rare for an impeachment of a president and would start with charges brought in the House of Representatives, which is controlled by the Republicans. However, the Senate is controlled by the Democrats and votes on whether or not to convict a president who has been impeached.

The Democratically controlled U.S. Senate stopped the impeachment of President Clinton. The senate would not convict the president on charges of lying while under oath over his affair with a then intern at the White House. Mike Huckabee, the former Governor of Arkansas and now host of his own show on Fox News Channel, predicted earlier that Obama would not serve his complete second term due to accusations related to Benghazi.

Starting next Monday, President Obama will hold a 3-day meeting with Prime Minister David Cameron of Britain and other members of the G8 to discuss the economy and the escalating problems in Syria.

Cameron is scheduled to travel to Russia prior to visiting the U.S. and will meet with President Vladimir Putin to discuss the conflict in Syria as well.

Cameron told members of parliament that it was time to start negotiating to force the transition of political power to help bring to an end the conflict in Syria.

The concern for both Obama and Cameron is the growing evidence by a small group that is more and more persuasive showing that the government of President Bashar al-Assad has already used and is continuing to use chemical weapons.

Both the regime and the rebels have accused one another of using Sarin and other chemical weapons.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said last month that the U.S. would increase its aid to the rebel forces inside Syria, but both the U.S. and members of the European Union have refused thus far to supply weapons to the rebel forces.

By lifting an embargo against the opposition group for arms, Cameron said it would help strengthen the opposition to the regime and would increase the pressure on al-Assad to enter into negotiations on a solution.

Obama spoke on Wednesday to Benjamin Netanyahu the Prime Minister of Israel following Israel’s latest air raid in Syria. The two discussed security issues in the region and peace for the Middle East.

The White House has not discussed specifics about the Israel air raids, but Obama said on Saturday following the first raid that Israel had the right to protect itself against the transfer of weapons to terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah.

U.S. President Barack Obama has said he is determined to achieve his goal of a political transition for Syria that includes the departure of current Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

President Obama’s remarks came after he had talks with Qatar’s Emir who was visiting the White House in Washington and after the issue of the use of chemical weapons by the Syria regime became headlines once again around the world.

Obama said that he and Qatar Emir Shiekh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani spoke at length about Syria amongst other issues.

The U.S. has cooperated closely with many countries including Qatar in seeking an end to the bloody conflict-taking place in Syria, the removal of the current regime and a way to usher in democracy to Syria with a group that represents everyone in the country and respects the rights of all.

Obama said the U.S. would step up its support for the opposition forces inside Syria and would coordinate strategies to help bring a more peaceful resolution to the crisis in Syria.

White House officials recently announced the country would give another $123 million in aid of a non-lethal form to the rebels in Syria.

Obama would not respond to a question about remarks made by an intelligence officer from Israel who said Assad’s regime had already used chemical weapons against the rebels.

Itai Brun a Brigadier General in Israel and the head of analysis and research for the military intelligence of Israel said it was their professional assessment that Assad has used chemical weapons.

Obama has said that any movement or use of chemical weapons would be the crossing of the red line and a game changer.

Over the coming weeks, the White House administration will play host to several leaders from the Middle East including Jordan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. In part, the leaders are visiting to register concerns about the civil war that is ongoing in Syria and to encourage the White House administration to push the balance in favor of the Syrian rebels in their attempt to oust current President Bashar al-Assad.

Syria has been the topic of many meetings. John Kerry the U.S. Secretary of State will have another meeting over Syria later this month in Istanbul. However, there is a good reason for the soon to be parade of leaders from the Middle East at the White House, said on political analyst.

Everyone involved in the situation knows that Obama and the American people are tired of being involved in foreign conflict, so the leaders need to sell their ideas to the White House.

However, most expect that the leaders from the Middle East will not make Obama decide on dramatic changes in policy for the U.S. in Syria. The White House has already said it is giving nonlethal aid to Syria’s rebels.

The meetings are also to help coordinate the policies about Syria and help to make sure all aid to the rebels is entering into the country through just one source.

Obama will listen to serious concerns from leaders of the Middle East over the region’s humanitarian crisis. The situation with Syrian refugees is nearing an unsustainable level said one analyst who specializes in the Middle East. Over half a million refugees are already in different camps and by the end of 2013, that number is expected to reach 1.2 million.

Kerry traveled to an area of the world that is currently bracing for the possibility of North Korea testing another missile. Kerry’s presence alone could also push the leaders of North Korea to do something seeking attention for a provocative headline.

At a news conference held in Seoul, Kerry told reporters that the world would not accept North Korea as a nuclear power and that the ongoing rhetoric coming from Pyongyang was not acceptable.

Secretary Kerry said the United States would make sure its allies were defended if necessary. He said during the news conference that U.S. officials were prepared to start talks with leaders from North Korea, but only when Pyongyang was prepared to be denuclearized.

Kerry’s stop in South Korea was the first of three visits to East Asia. The trip is to discuss the current situation regarding North Korea’s unpredictable regime and the possibility it may launch a missile that has the capability of reaching as far as U.S. Pacific territory Guam. After Kerry leaves South Korea, he is scheduled to visit Japan and China.

Kerry mentioned during his press conference that China, with its strength in the region could influence North Korea by putting a great deal of pressure on them.

Kerry’s trip coincides with a recently released U.S. Intelligence report that says the North Koreans have made advances in their nuclear knowhow and had the capability of attaching a nuclear warhead to one of their ballistic missiles.

Kerry said Washington sees the two countries as the Middle East’s anchors for stability.

The top diplomat in the U.S. made his remarks during a press conference following his talks with Ahmet Davutoglu the Foreign Minister of Turkey in Istanbul during his first stop of this third visit to the region in less than a month.

Kerry said the two countries, of which both are important allies to the U.S., need to send their ambassadors back to each other as quickly as possible. He added that Israeli-Turkish cooperation would help to meet the challenges facing the region today.

Kerry told members of the press that he would like see the relationship between Israel and Turkey help in the peace talks between the Palestinians and Israel. Kerry added that Turkey could contribute greatly to future development of Gaza and the West Bank.

Last month, U.S. President Barack Obama brokered a Turkey and Israel reconciliation while on his Middle East trip. Benjamin Netanyahu the Prime Minister of Israel apologized to Turkey following Obama’s trip, for the raid in 2010 on the aid flotilla for Gaza.

The raid killed one Turkish American, eight Turks and has seriously strained relations between the close regional allies of the U.S.

Davutoglu said the improvement of living conditions in Gaza was important and that Turkey wanted to see a two-state solution between Palestine and Israel based upon the line drawn before 1967, which would help restore peace in the region.

John Kerry the U.S. Secretary of State arrived on Monday in Kabul to meet with Hamid Karzai the Afghan president to discuss the conditions for any troops from the U.S. that remain in Afghanistan beyond the pull out date of 2014. The two will also discuss the possibility of peace talks with Taliban leaders and the economic and security transition.

The visit by Kerry, his first since taking the position as the top diplomat in the U.S., had not been announced beforehand for security. His trip comes following a number of disputes between the U.S. and Afghanistan over detainees’ transfers from U.S. custody to Afghan custody, the expelling of U.S. special forces and a recent accusation by Karzai that U.S. authorities were colluding with members of the Taliban to increase violence in Afghanistan.

Over the past four years, Kerry has met on five occasions with Karzai and the two have a pleasant relationship, said officials from the U.S. that spoke to reporters traveling with the Secretary of State. Officials said that Kerry is not there to lecture Karzai but rather wants to hold an open and frank discussion with the Afghan head of state.

Officials from both countries are attempting to redefine their relationship ahead of the withdrawal of combat troops before the end of 2014. It has not yet been announced by President Obama as to how many troops might stay in Afghanistan following the pull out date. The U.S. and Afghanistan are currently in talks about the status of those troops that remain.

Afghanistan and U.S. officials agreed over the weekend that Parwan detention facility prisoners would be turned over to officials from Afghanistan on Monday. This should eliminate a discord between the two nations if the accord holds and if Afghan officials do not release prisoners the U.S. said have participated in acts of terrorism.

He marveled at the ancient city in Jordan as he completed his four-day trip to the Middle East.

The visit to Petra followed his visits to Israel and the Palestinian Authority. The diplomatic portion of the trip was capped off by Obama’s brokering of a new agreement between Turkey and Israel, but offered only symbolic gestures between Israel and the Palestinians over real peace.

Prior to going to see Petra, Obama increased his criticism of President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, but would not commit to military aid for the rebels in Syria to help bring an end to the civil war of two years that has killed over 70,000 people.

Officials from the U.S. voiced quiet satisfaction with results of the first trip to Israel for Obama and his first international trip during his second term.

Obama was flown by helicopter to Petra and went on a walking tour of the city that is over 2,000 years old. Much of the city was carved out of sandstone cliffs.

The U.S. president had the place to himself as all ordinary tourists had to leave prior to his arrival. He was followed by a group of guards, but was able to enjoy and comment on how amazing the ruins were.

Obama arrived Friday night in Jordan and announced at that time the breakthrough between Turkey and Israel. Benjamin Netanyahu the Israeli Prime Minister apologized on behalf of Israel for the deaths of nine citizens of Turkey in a naval raid in 2010 on a flotilla bound for Gaza. The two countries promised the U.S. they would normalize relations.

He said that the continued settlement building by Israel in the West Bank was not helping the cause.

Obama said if direct negotiations can be started again, he believed the potential is there for a deal. The U.S. president also said not only would the majority of Palestinians and Israelis support a peace plan, but the region and the rest of the world would as well.

The president made these remarks while appearing with the President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas at a joint news conference.

Obama said Palestinians deserve to have an independent, sovereign state and an end to Israeli occupation.

When asked about Israeli settlements in the West Bank, Obama said the most important issue was to get sovereignty for the people of Palestine.

Abbas said he and Obama spoke and he told Obama that peace between the Palestinians and Israel should not be reached through occupation, settlements, violence, arrests or through denying the rights of refugees.

The message Obama gave to emphasize how important reaching peace was for Palestinians and Israel was underscored Thursday when militants in Gaza launched rockets across the border into southern Israel.

Obama will make an appeal to both the Palestinians and Israelis to stop unilateral actions that continue to make it more difficult to hold negotiations. Those actions include repeated efforts by the Palestinians to achieve U.N. recognition because of the absence of a peach accord and the continued building of Jewish housing on landed that has been claimed by Palestinians.

The leaders urged Obama to deliver their message to Palestinians during his trip at the end of this week to the Middle East. The urging by the leaders came even though the president said he would not use his visit to set in motion a peace initiative for Israel and the Palestinians.

Ten leaders came to the White House to meet with Obama only four days after he held talks with the leaders of Jewish organizations in his preparation for traveling to Israel, Jordan and the West Bank.

The Obama administration has not announced the official dates of Obama’s planned trip, but news media in Israel has reported that the U.S. president would start his trip on March 20 in Israel.

Obama, in his meeting, was seeking input for his different meetings while in the Middle East. He is schedule to hold talks separately with Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, Mahmoud Abbas the Palestinian president and King Abdullah Jordan’s ruler.

An official from the White House said Obama wanted to demonstrate the commitment by the U.S. to the people of Palestine and at the same time reiterate the commitment of America to the security of Israel.

Many Palestinians expressed their disappointment in the failure of Obama to bring about an advancement in the peace process, despite calling diplomacy in the Middle East a high priority for his second term in office.
