McCain hears angry comments on Immigration
On Tuesday, the immigration debate took center stage in Arizona as Janet Napolitano, the Secretary of Homeland Security toured the border of the state and Mexico and John McCain the Senator from Arizona defended his proposed immigration overhaul to a number of angry people in Phoenix.
Washington officials arriving in Arizona is yet another sign that the state will play an important role in the debate over immigration as the President looks to make it his signature issue for his last term in office.
Secretary Napolitano was at the border near the town of Nogales with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s highest official, the new chairman of the homeland security committee in the Senate and a Congressman from Arizona.
Napolitano is a former governor of Arizona and said after her tour of the border that new comprehensive reform on immigration will strengthen the borders in the country against criminals and any other threats.
McCain hosted two town hall meetings in Arizona and defended his plan for immigration reform to concerned and upset residents over the security of the border. A group of bipartisan senators, including McCain and fellow Republican Jeff Flake from Arizona, want assurances that the border security will be better as Congress wonders what the biggest changes in 30 years will be for immigration law.
McCain said a Social Security card that is tamper-proof would help combat fraud and said any path granted towards citizenship must require English to be learned, cover unpaid back taxes and pay fines for not adhering to the laws of immigration.
One man who disapproved said only guns would help discourage illegal immigration. While another man said that illegal immigrants should never be given the right to become a citizen or vote and a third said undocumented immigrants were just illiterate invaders looking for government handouts.

I am for Immigration Reform but I don’t see any. The borders were never secured pursuant to the 1986 Immigration Reform Act, yet Politicians want to legalize another 11 million (low estimate) with the same Promise. SSI and Medicaid for those who have not paid into Social Security has been extended to Illegals without Deportation warrants. As Sen McCain so aptly said, “its all about votes.”
Illiterate invaders looking for goverment handouts? Sounds like he was talking about a large group of Americans as well. The goverment gives little or no help to illegal imagrents. And tell me this why does the process take so long for hispanics to come here legally and people from other countries come legally and it takes a fracion of the time? Remember the are other imagrents not just hispanics, yes others mays come here legally but they don’t STAY here legally.
Morgan, there are 9 million legal Mexican immigrants. The next closest is the Phillipines with 1.4 million. As far as I know, there are no laws that cause it to take longer for Mexicans than other nationalities to become American citizens unless they are seeking asylum. The number don’t support that either.
Napolitano should be the poster child of the “Peter Principal”. Her negative stance on the use of walls to keep people in or out is ill founded. I believe both the Berlin Wall and the Great Wall of China were very effective. We need to build them and patrol them with “shoot to kill” orders for unlawful intrusion. This will greatly diminish the flow of illegal drugs, guns, immigrants and potential terrorist activities along our borders.
It’s time to get real about the problem and put aside some of the “political correctness” concerns that plague our society. America is very vulnerable and unfortunately very gullible.
The flow of illegal drugs, guns and terrorists will barely be stemmed by a larger wall or shoot to kill orders, though I could see why you might think that. If the money is good, there will always be people on both sides willing to transport things across. There’s lots of reports of underground tunnels being dug to transport contraband, and it’s trivial to get these set up for a cartel.
Additionally, most of the guns are going OUT of the U.S. into the hands of Mexican gangs involved in the drug war. The drug problem hasn’t always been rampant, it’s really just because U.S. demand is fueling it. We’re very much the cause of the immigration wave. Who wants to live in a narco-state?
The only people we’ll be shooting at will be those too poor to pay for black market smuggling. We’ll only be causing the criminals to become more sophisticated in their methods.
Hispanics arent as well skillef as Asian
or European immigrants besides there right next
to us I wish there was ocean between us and them
Then the problem wouldn’t be as big
Here’s my problem if we had set an immigration reform in the past germans irish and the chinese would of been the victims then that’s all of you immigrants built this country and still do. This is america were a person can work hard so there spoiled children never have too eventually we need new immigrants to do the shitty work my problem is I have to compete at 27 with grown men that don’t speak english and have a 6th grade education makes it tough to climb ladders
Will it kill you to use a comma? Make some sense, son.
For once we are on the same side: McC/Flake, go for immigration reform; the loud voices you hear are those of ignorant, selfish, (dare i say STUPID people) who have no idea what they are talking about. May they boil in hell. They are the ones that should be deported, they do not not what America is about or how it was founded or what makes us strong.
One little thing we might have missed. The proliferation of bedbugs in the Northern states. Bedbugs were prevalent in the ’30s and 40′s in the US, but were erradicated by the use of now illegal pesticides.
They have always persisted in the southern states where the summer warm months are longer and hotter.
We contend the slow spread of illegal immigrants from the Mexican border throughout the US into the northern states have reintroduced bedbugs back to our northern cities. These ‘migrants’ sleep where ever they can; some times on the open ground.
Had they been legal immigrants appying for citizenship, they would have been given a health check up. Just another example of the lack of knowledge of our current ‘leaders’.
A simple thing like ‘health consideration should be primary in any Governments focus to protect it’s citizens.
More guns, more ammunition, more walls, more fences, more xenophobia, less free trade, less cheap labor, more isolationism. Just what this country needs. Let’s change the name of the country to New-Israel while we’re at it.
