Senate allies of President Barack Obama are admitting now that they cannot pass a jobs package with a price tag of $83 billion. To make up for this, they are now making plans to move forward with the first part of this job agenda next month. A small part of the overall package is a new hire tax credit.

This small admission is a way to acknowledge the political realities of the public voters that are worried more and more about government spending. It is also the first step aimed at trying to win over the Republicans since the Democrats no longer have the majority that was filibuster proof.

According to a top Senate Democratic aide, this tax credit for jobs would secure a $15 to $30 billion idea that would be put to the vote in February. This measure would also make way for small business tax breaks along with ways to subsidize state and local government bonds.

This forging ahead of this initial step is hoped to gain the support of not only the Senate but the general public overall. The President is still struggling to regain his positive showing in the polls and this may be what helps him do that.
