Obama relived Gen. McChrystal from command earlier today. McChrystal served as the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan and now will be replaced by David Petraeus.
McChrystal met with Obama for about 30 minutes and after the meeting shortly went to his home in Ft. McNair, Washington, D.C. Prior to McChrystal’s arrival, the White House had asked the Pentagon to provide a list of qualified candidates.
McChrystal went prepared to give a resignation since he had a pretty good idea of what the outcome was going to be.
McChrystal is a true American hero and while I agree he should have kept his views out of the public, he also had every right to voice his opinion. You just can’t have top Generals going around bad-mouthing the President. McChrystal should have been given a warning and not relived from his post.
He has been I Afghanistan and knows the best. Had Obama worked with the General, I think his approval ratings would have spiked a bit. I personally wanted the General not to relived and worked out some sort of a deal. We wish Gen. Stanley McChrystal the best. Great general and a great patriot.
While this is only a theory – maybe Gen. McChrystal was tired of the Obama administration and possibly knew that this could be a ticket out?
Just a thought!
