In regards to the recent oil spill incident, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar – said that the companies involved in the whole process made some major mistakes back then. He passed this statement, after a meeting with some BP officials.

The causes are still subject to investigation so Salazar didn’t say a lot about this incident. But he did say, that in case of any oil spills, a blowout preventer is supposed to come into action automatically by shutting down the flow of the oil in an emergency. But it seems like, there was some huge malfunction and the preventer didn’t work.

The investigations are going to lead us to the core of this whole matter and finally we’ll know why the preventer didn’t work the way it was supposed to work, said Salazar. But today is not the day for pointing fingers but we will get to the case ASAP, because I believe there have been a lot of companies involved in this faulty venture.

According to current statistics, BP is responsible for handling the oil spill and capping the well. They will be covering everything, from cleanup costs to paying those fishermen, for their losses. Last night, BP brought in a four storey high containment vessel that is going to be lowered down in the seabed pretty soon.

The containment vessel is going to be lowered down, in hopes for preventing any further leaks. IF the vessel starts collecting the oil, then BP will deploy another similar vessel down there. But this sort of operation has never been performed before so there are a lot of challenges and obstacles to be faced.
