Recent Attack on the Kandahar Led to Cancellation of Meeting British Troops

Recent-Attack-on-the-Kandahar-Led-to-Cancellation-of-Meeting-British-TroopsThe recent attack on the Kandahar airfield forced William Hague (Foreign Secretary) and Liam Fox (Defense Secretary) to call it quits on the newly scheduled trip to meet the British troops on one of the bases in Afghanistan.

The Afghan rebels opened up with a barrage of rockets, bullets and hand grenades on the airfield and also made attempts to bring down the perimeter fences, but they were forced back through defense mechanism by the watchtowers.

At this rate, the fighting in southern region of Afghanistan is expected to escalate by a few notches, this summer and the American and British officials are making plans of deploying more troops, to get a hang of the whole situation.

However, the Kandahar attack wasn’t the only incident in Afghanistan because a similar attack was repeated in the Bagram airbase, followed by a suicide attack in the capital city. Luckily, there were no causalities during those attacks, but they did leave several NATO and Afghan security officials, critically wounded.

So far, no one has been able to penetrate the base perimeters and the security protocol has been tightened to reduce any further future penetration attempts.
