After renewed rounds of protests and fighting, Thai streets witnessed the death of 10 individuals and 125 wounded men and women. Soldiers reacted aggressively through bullets, baton charge and tear gas bombs to scatter the crowds.
It all began in early March as a defiant and proud rally against the current Thai government but in a matter of few days, the Army unraveled its strengthened stronghold against those protestors. Well, so much for those “red inside – water melon” army officials, because now they’ve gone bonkers against the common man of Thailand.
They shoot first and ask questions later and the protest site, centered on Ratchaprasong, was surrounded by a horde of armed troops and police officers in armored vehicles. They didn’t fire rubber bullets, as live rounds were also used in a lot of cases. The protestors, known as The Red Shirts are raising voice against the emperor and the current dictatorship in the country.
The Red Shirts also struck back through slogans, petrol bombs, and bamboo fortresses on the road, and also set fire to effigies of notorious Thai officials. So far, their unity has made four Thai leaders to resign from their offices and it includes Veera Musikhapong as well.
Apparently, the Red Shirts want Thaksin Shinawatra back on his seat or someone who is equally capable of running the country. But Thaksin, on the other hand, isn’t allowed to send political messages to Thailand or anyone who is believed to have a political influence in the country.
Abhisit Vejjajiva, the Prime Minister of Thailand did announce to offer another electoral campaign but it seems like as if he took back his last offer. Still, he vows to work for the reconciliation and promised to act in the best interest of the people of Thailand.
