Even though former vice president Dick Cheney has a new heart, it has not softened the opinion he has of President Barack Obama. Cheney said he was not one of Obama’s fans. He said he felt Obama was one of the weakest president’s the U.S. has had and he fundamentally disagrees philosophically with Obama.

Cheney said it would be difficult to find any president who has been a Democratic that he disagrees with more. When asked if that included former President Jimmy Carter, he replied, “Yes.”

The feeling is most likely mutual, as Obama supporters say that the policies of former president George W. Bush and Cheney in the Middle East and other places lowered the standing of the U.S. throughout the world.

Cheney did credit Obama for his raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound in 2011 that resulted in the terrorist’s death. However, Cheney did say the intelligence that helped lead to the raid came from programs that had been developed under the Bush administration.

He criticized Obama for withdrawing from both Afghanistan and Iraq saying the country should not run out on the two countries and turn our backs on them.

Cheney also said that John McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin for his running mate in 2008 was a big mistake.

This was hit first interview since he had a heart transplant last March. He said his recovery from the surgery is a miracle and that he has not felt as good as he does now for many years.
