First lady Michelle Obama has now embraced her role on the presidential campaign trail where she is more popular than the president. The Obama campaign will send her to the swing states to win over the independents and raise more money. Michelle Obama

Last Thursday, she attended an event in Milwaukee that was attended by 2,000 party volunteers. She had to yell to be heard over the crowd’s stomping feet. She said that this year’s election will be closer than the last one.

She gave a 30 minute long speech then she went to a private meeting with victims and family of those killed or injured in a shooting incident earlier this month at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin. She told temple secretary Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal and Oak Creek Mayor Stephen Scaffidi that it was her honor to be there with them. She added that she was anxious to meet with the families and give whatever support she can to them. She later went to Indianapolis to attend a fundraising event where she asked donors to give more so that her husband can win the election this fall.

The way she handles this year’s campaign is different from how she acted in the 2008 election when she stirred controversy for stating that her husband’s success has made her proud of her country for the first time in her life.

Conservatives criticized Michelle Obama as not being patriotic and that resulted into her staying away from the limelight for some time. She went back into the campaign trail just in time to draw large crowds as she helped her husband make history by being the first black president of the nation.

This year’s election is tougher because the unemployment rate is over 8 percent. Michelle Obama told campaign officials that she would limit her campaigning to three days a week so that she can see her daughters Malia and Sasha.
