Wayne LaPierre the Executive Vice President of the NRA has not been in the public eye since his appearance on the Meet the Press show last month was poorly received. However, on Tuesday night he appeared with the NRA’s response to a comment made during the inaugural speech of President Obama on Monday.

In his address, the President referred only once to gun violence saying the children in America, including those in Newtown must know they are being cared for, cherished and always safe from harm’s way.

That point was not responded to by LaPierre, instead his 12-minute speech from Nevada was directed at the remark made by Obama that we should not mistake absolutism for principle or treat name-calling as reasonable debate or substitute spectacle with politics. That comment, was referred to by many, as a reference to the Republicans in Congress.

LaPierre said that Obama was speaking about his association, the NRA. He accused Obama of attempting to turn absolutism into a four-letter word and redefining word order so common sense is turned around and nobody knows any different.

He attacked Obama’s proposals for gun control, including the banning of assault weapons that are military-style and the implementation of background checks for everyone.

LaPierre said Obama wants to put all personal, private firearms transactions under the federal governments thumb. He said Obama wanted all the names of gun purchasers in a huge federal registry. LaPierre said a huge registry like that of gun owners is for only two reasons: tax them or to take them. And, LaPierre said that anyone not agreeing to or thinking that Obama’s proposals are too excessive is called an absolutist.
