One Surprise among Voters Opinions
Recent polls show that voters have for the most part, are divided consistently along familiar lines, similar to 2008. One veteran pollster said that geographics are trumped by demographics.
All of the six swing states in the poll show “class inversion.” Meaning, Obama has more popularity with whites who have at least a university degree than ones who do not. In all the states poled, Obama is running better with white women who have a minimum of a university degree than all other whites (white mlaes or white females who do not have a university degree, and/or white men who do.)
Obama has close to 54% of this group of women in the six states. He is capturing close to 66% of the upscale, mostly liberal, women of Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Obama is also winning nearly 66% in the six states of the minority votes and in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia he is winning close to 90% of them.
Conversely, in the six states polled, Romney has the majority of the white voters who do not have a college degree. In all of the states, with the exception of Florida, white males without a four-year college degree is the best group for Romney. In each of the five states, he has at least 53% support from that group. The new polls also show Romney garnering close to 58% of the blue-collar voting men in Colorado, Ohio, Wisconsin and Virginia. In Virginia, Romney has the most support at 68% amongst that group.
The latest polls represent quite a change from ones earlier in the year, when the swing states poll showed a gap only with upscale whites, while Obama was running nearly as bad among men as among working women. The biggest change is that working women, who for them every day’s a constant struggle, have decided that Romney will not look out for their best interests.
