The Wisconsin police didn’t evict the protesters from the Capitol building in Madison as the standoff against Governor Scott Walker continues in the state capital. Governor Walker threatened to lay off thousands of union workers if his plan is not enacted. Democratic state legislators go away from Wisconsin to avoid a vote to happen. They demand that the governor stop pushing for the bill to restrict union rights.
A large crowd of protesters stayed outside the historic capitol as the police evicted some of the demonstrators from the inside. Protest actions started when Governor Walker introduced his bill. Since then the protesters have gathered around the rotunda.
Some protesters spent the nights inside the building and the capitol police wanted to evict them so that the building can be cleaned and fully operational on Monday. Even after the police told the demonstrators to leave, thousands remained inside.
Governor Walker asked the Democratic Senators to return and pass his bill. He stated that thousands of local and state government workers could lose their jobs if they prolong the passing of the bill. Walker’s goal is to decrease the $137 million budget deficit by cutting state employee’s health-care benefits and pensions. The bill would also limit their right to bargain collectively.
