Republicans in Congress Pass Misogynous Bills
After the 2008 elections, the Republicans wanted to project an image that they welcome diversity by praising party raising stars such as Sarah Palin and Michael Steele. But now they have control of the House again, the GOP returns to becoming a white male only club.
The Republicans in the House of Congress are passing new legislations that attack women’s rights. The first one is the H.R. 3, which is named as the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. This act will ban Medicaid or Medicare funds from being used to pay for abortions. The only exemptions would be in case of incest or rape.
Then there’s the H.R. 358 or the Protect Life Act. Women rights groups say that this bill will do the opposite. Instead of protecting life, it will endanger the lives of women. The bill states that hospitals can refuse to perform emergency abortions even if the mother’s life is at stake if she doesn’t have one.
These two bills are still waiting to be voted on. There’s actually an amendment that was recently passed by the House that bans all Planned Parenthood center to receive federal funds. Critics say that this is illogical because Planned Parenthood provides health services such as STI test, birth control, and reproductive health exams.
