Mitt Romney is set to announce his choice of vice president soon and there are lots of speculations as to who his pick would be. His campaign is trying to keep the hype alive as it releases a smart phone app as well as put a stream of fundraising appeals that are connected to the announcement.

Ann Romney, the Republican candidate’s wife, wrote in an email to supporters that in a few short hours a lucky supporter will get the chance to meet Mitt and his VP pick in person. That means that the actual announcement is nearing.

Romney remained mum about the subject as he told NBC news that he wants a running mate with a vision for the country that adds something to the political discourse about the direction of the country. The former Massachusetts governor spent much of the day yesterday raising money in the New York City area before he flew to Boston to spend the night.

He has no plans for today as he prepares for a bus tour in battleground states, which starts tomorrow in Virginia. Most of Romney’s potential running mates come from states he will be visiting, who include Senators Rob Portman of Ohio and Marco Rubio of Florida. Another vice president hopeful is former Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, a state that hasn’t supported a Republican president since Richard Nixon in 1972.

President Obama is also trying to get the support of swing states. His campaign is following Romney through Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and Ohio through new ads attacking the Republican candidate’s tax returns.

Romney was a former private equity executive with a fortune estimated at around $250 million. He refused to release more than two years of tax returns. He said that he shouldn’t have to release more details of his finances.
