Senator Johnson Appointed to 4 Major Committees
Some people are surprised to learn that Senator Ron Johnson was appointed to three major committees. The rookie Republican from Oshkosh was assigned to the Committee on the Budget, Committee on Appropriations, Committee on Aging, and the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
According to Senator Johnson, he is qualified for the said committees because of his background as a manufacturer and accountant. He added that 31 years of experience is what Washington needs if it wants s to adopt realistic ways of spending.
Political analyzers stated that it is rare for first-year senators to be assigned to major committees. The Republican leadership must have noted Johnson’s image as a fiscal conservative during the campaign. They conceded that the senator’s long experience as an accountant and businessman makes him qualified for the position.
Senator Johnson’s disadvantage is his political inexperience and he has a lot of growing up to do. He has never been to Washington and has not been part of the government in any ways. People were surprised with his interest of foreign affairs.
Senator Johnson is optimistic about his role in the committees. He said that he’ll look at the federal budget and try to work with Congress to control the overspending.
