Roger-Federer-WimbledonRoger Federer has now put himself in position for a date with destiny.   Federer won his record-tying seventh Wimbledon title Sunday, beating Andy Murray 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.  the 17 time grand slam champion make short work of Murray, and ended a chance for Britain to crown a homegrown men’s champion.

“It’s amazing,” Federer said in the postmatch ceremony. “It equals me to Pete Sampras, who’s my hero. It’s just amazing.”  Federer is now 17-7 in Grand Slam finals, including 7-1 at Wimbledon.

The last British man to win the Wimbledon title was Fred Perry in 1936. Sunday’s match was the first Wimbledon final to be played with the roof closed.
