Well, we cant really empty the entire bucket of blame on Karzai, because the U.S. complaints also pointed out that Karzai wasn’t doing a lot to deal with corruption in his country. So its more of a two way deal thing these days.

Anyways, the Afghan President spent a good time at the White House, sharing cocktails and having a hearty lunch. However, the whole agenda of this meeting wasn’t targeted towards catching up on good old times.

Karzai wanted some sort of re assurance that America won’t be abandoning him, even after the troops are withdrawn from Afghanistan, next summer. To make things better and to show warm feelings and his sensitive side, Karzai painstakingly took a small tour to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, just to check in on wounded troops and to pay tribute to the fallen heroes.

On top of everything, Obamaville and Clinton didn’t show a lot of concern regarding the drug trafficking issues and corruption in Afghanistan (meaning, either things were okay – or maybe they didn’t have time to investigate).

Apparently, at the time being, most of the success factor for Karzai is dependent on his leadership and how he manages to deliver that creative visualization thing, to the common man in Afghanistan. America is also willing to help out Karzai in terms of the U.S. strategy for Afghanistan, but Hamid Karzai has to make people believe in him.

Kagan’s work as associate counsel to Clinton and deputy director of the Domestic Policy Council is of crucial importance these days. Other than that, there are a lot of emails and indirectly related papers to go through as well.

It is being expected that Kagan is just one step away from being the new Supreme Court Justice but leading senators on the Judiciary Committee said that the finalization process is going to be contentious.

Let’s take a gander at what those senators have to say against or in favor of Kagan;

-	On top of the list, we have Senator Mitch McConnell who has been dropping the word on NBC that Kagan’s arguments for Obama administration, in support of the long standing restrictions on the independent spending by corporations and unions in political campaign, is sort of “troubling”.

-	In addition, another Senator (name not mentioned) also said that Kagan isn’t really proficient with respect to being experience in being a judge. This could be problematic, if we look at it from a long term perspective.

-	Senator Jeff Sessions (Alabama) said that we don’t have a lot of ground to cover, when it comes to Kagan’s record. If we look at her overall resume, it doesn’t add up to the whole “being-a-judge” thing. She will be subject to a complete analysis before any solid word could be passed.

It turned out that President Barack Obama uses just the same model that was followed by Clinton. At that time the former president was trying to persuade Mario Cuomo, New York Gov. along with George Mitchell, Senate Majority Leader, to become a nominee for the high court. But in fact, the trial was unsuccessful.

Justice John Paul Stevens recently announced his decision to retire which gives Obama another chance to elaborate the court’s composition.

During the first years in office, Bill Clinton had two court vacancies. As a result, two federal appeals court judges were nominated, i.e. 60 year-old Stephen Breyer and Ruth Bader who was in his early 50s.

Obama was urged by the former president to choose someone who is around 50 years old.

According to the democratic predecessor of Obama in the White House, Mitchell, who was a judge before serving in the Senate, and Cuomo could made good justices, but both refused. Clinton expressed his hopes that Obama would choose a person who had never been a judge.

Elena Kagan, Solicitor General, who is 49 years old, has never been a judge. She is also under consideration. Among others who can match the description, one can name 52-years-old Janet Napolitano, Homeland Security Secretary, Deval Patrick, 53, Massachusetts Gov. and Gov. Jennifer Granholm, 51.

Last year Sonia Sotomayor was considered as a federal appellate judge.
