President Barack Obama is expected to nominate Jason Furman a longtime adviser to be the chief economist in the White House, said official from the administration.

Furman will replace the outgoing Alan Krueger as the chief of the White House Council of Economic Advisers. He has a Harvard University PhD in economics and has been an adviser for Obama since Obama’s election campaign in 2008.

Furman was instrumental in putting together the policies for the administration on taxes, the formulation of the healthcare overhaul, the White House response to the recession and efforts to stave off last year’s fiscal cliff.

The appointment is expected to be announced at 2:10 Monday afternoon.

Krueger was confirmed in November of 2011 as the CEA chair and will be returning to Princeton University to teach, where he had been on leave. In order to maintain tenure, Krueger was required to return to the school this fall.

Furman currently is the assistant to President Obama for economic policy and was a Clinton Administration economist.

The CEA gives advice to the president on all international and domestic economic policy based upon economic research and data. The chairman of the CEA is a member of the cabinet and requires a confirmation by the Senate.

Furman’s former colleagues said he would be effective due to his good relationship with the staff at the White House and especially with the president.

The appointment will likely mean that tax and budgets fights with Washington lawmakers will continue to take on a high-profile role in economic policy in the White House. It might also raise the CEA profile within the White House as well.

This week during a forum behind closed doors in Park City, Romney, the former presidential nominee of the Republican Party listed many of the concerns America faces today from its huge debt to its instability economically. He suggested to a crowd that was bipartisan that they needed to use the influence they had to tackle those concerns.

Son Josh, who lives in Utah, said his father was showing how he would have led if elected President. His son continued by saying the kind of person his father is and the type of president he would have been would be to get past everything personal and petty and take on the biggest issues head on.

The speakers at the forum included some leading luminaries in politics including David Axelrod the top advisor to President Obama, and a number of possible contenders for the White House from the Republican Party such as Paul Ryan, Rand Paul and Chris Christie. John Hickenlooper, the Democratic Governor of Colorado was also present.

No news media was allowed to enter the forum, though Romney’s son Josh did say 200 attendees were present and a great deal of compromise was discussed by both sides.

Josh Romney said no one mentioned the President’s name during the forum and that his father was not attempting to win political points, but influence national dialogue.

President Barack Obama will announce the appointment of Susan Rice, the current U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, as the new national security adviser, said White House officials on Wednesday.

Rice will be replacing current NSA Tom Donilon. At the same time, Obama is expected to nominate Samantha Power, a former aide at the National Security Council to take the place of Rice as the United Nations ambassador.

Obama considered Rice last year for Secretary of State, before deciding on John Kerry instead. Part of his reason for doing so was due to the controversy that surrounded the Benghazi, Libya attack on September 11.

Rice has been an associate for many years of the President. During his first campaign in 2008, Rice worked as his advisor on foreign policy.

Senate Republicans last year threatened to block the nomination of Rice as the country’s top diplomat, but the President does not need a Senate confirmation for the national security adviser position.

Donilon will not leave his position until July as he is currently working on trips for the President to China, Africa and Europe.

It was expected that Donilon would retire at some point this year and it was considered that Rice would be the top candidate to replace him.

Rice was heavily criticized by Republicans who investigated the Benghazi incident over interviews on television she gave in the days following the attack. She attributed the attacks to people who were protesting over a film that was anti-Islam. However, the White House administration later called it a terrorist attack that had been pre-planned. Members of the GOP accused Rice of covering it up.

A poll released on Friday shows Clinton with a lead over both even though her rating amongst voters has declined.

Clinton has seen a drop of 9% in her favorable rating following the intense probes by congressional leaders of the Republican Party into the attacks last year on a U.S. diplomatic mission in Libya.

The survey gave the former top U.S. diplomat an 8% lead over both Bush and Paul, who were the only two of a number of possible GOP candidates for the White House included in the poll. Clinton led Bush by 48% to 40% and Paul by 49% to 41%.

Joe Biden the current Vice President is also another possible Democratic candidate for 2016, but he trailed both Bush and Paul in the survey. Bush beat Biden 44% to 38% and Paul beat Biden 43% to 39%.

In the poll, Clinton who has been a first lady and U.S. Senator prior to being the top diplomat in the country was voted favorably by 52% and unfavorably by 40%. However, just after she left her State Department post her favorability was 61% versus a negative rating of just 34%.

Her fall in favorability, says analysts, could be due to some voters placing either some or a great deal of blame on her for the death of the four Americans in Libya.

Republicans continue to blame the White House for first discounting the link to terrorism in the attacks over a concern of how it would impact the reelection of President Obama.

Stephanie Schriock the President of EMILY’S List said she believes there will be a fight for the Democratic Presidential nomination in 2016 despite polls today showing Hillary Clinton having a sizable lead.

She said that even though the numbers are where they are now, there will be a battle for in the primaries and it will make it good for the party as the vision and ideals of the party will be discussed.

In a recent poll, Clinton received 65% of voter support for potential candidates from the Democratic Party and most feel if she were to run, she would easily out distance the field.

Schriock, following a speech that helped launch the effort to try to elect a female to the presidency, said she hoped that Clinton runs. She said Clinton’s name was being mentioned much more than other potential candidates and many are hopeful she decides to run.

The battle overall will be hard, as the Republican Party has not been in power for eight years and will be throwing everything at the Democrat in the race in an attempt to win the White House back.

EMILY’S list announced it would spend over six figures to help with the effort of getting a female candidate into the White House. They released a video that featured young girls out campaigning for the president.

Polling that was released on Thursday showed that more than 90% of those in nine battleground states who were surveyed said they would consider voting for a candidate that is female from their particular party. Eighty-six percent said the U.S. was ready for a woman president and 62% said that they felt a woman would be elected in the upcoming presidential election.

Bush the former President of the United States has said he believes his younger sibling should run for the presidency in 2016. Former President Bush said his brother Jeb would be a great candidate and would be great for the White House if elected.

President Bush said his brother did not need his counsel since he already knows he should run. Jeb Bush is a former governor of the state of Florida.

The former president said whether his younger brother ran or not was a personal decision only Jeb could make. However, the former president received some stern words from his mother Barbara, the former first lady, who said that she believes there has been enough President’s named Bush in the White House.

Bush gave his comments about his brother prior to the opening of his new presidential library in Dallas on the campus of Southern Methodist University.

Bush even spoke about a possible matchup in 2016 between his brother Jeb and the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The former president said it was very early to make any speculation about who would or would not run in the next presidential election. He also said it would become much clearer once the midterm elections have been held in late 2014.

Bush appeared at the inauguration of his library with all of his fellow former presidents, who are still living – George H.W. Bush his father, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. Also attending was Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

John Kerry the U.S. Secretary of State arrived on Monday in Kabul to meet with Hamid Karzai the Afghan president to discuss the conditions for any troops from the U.S. that remain in Afghanistan beyond the pull out date of 2014. The two will also discuss the possibility of peace talks with Taliban leaders and the economic and security transition.

The visit by Kerry, his first since taking the position as the top diplomat in the U.S., had not been announced beforehand for security. His trip comes following a number of disputes between the U.S. and Afghanistan over detainees’ transfers from U.S. custody to Afghan custody, the expelling of U.S. special forces and a recent accusation by Karzai that U.S. authorities were colluding with members of the Taliban to increase violence in Afghanistan.

Over the past four years, Kerry has met on five occasions with Karzai and the two have a pleasant relationship, said officials from the U.S. that spoke to reporters traveling with the Secretary of State. Officials said that Kerry is not there to lecture Karzai but rather wants to hold an open and frank discussion with the Afghan head of state.

Officials from both countries are attempting to redefine their relationship ahead of the withdrawal of combat troops before the end of 2014. It has not yet been announced by President Obama as to how many troops might stay in Afghanistan following the pull out date. The U.S. and Afghanistan are currently in talks about the status of those troops that remain.

Afghanistan and U.S. officials agreed over the weekend that Parwan detention facility prisoners would be turned over to officials from Afghanistan on Monday. This should eliminate a discord between the two nations if the accord holds and if Afghan officials do not release prisoners the U.S. said have participated in acts of terrorism.

He marveled at the ancient city in Jordan as he completed his four-day trip to the Middle East.

The visit to Petra followed his visits to Israel and the Palestinian Authority. The diplomatic portion of the trip was capped off by Obama’s brokering of a new agreement between Turkey and Israel, but offered only symbolic gestures between Israel and the Palestinians over real peace.

Prior to going to see Petra, Obama increased his criticism of President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, but would not commit to military aid for the rebels in Syria to help bring an end to the civil war of two years that has killed over 70,000 people.

Officials from the U.S. voiced quiet satisfaction with results of the first trip to Israel for Obama and his first international trip during his second term.

Obama was flown by helicopter to Petra and went on a walking tour of the city that is over 2,000 years old. Much of the city was carved out of sandstone cliffs.

The U.S. president had the place to himself as all ordinary tourists had to leave prior to his arrival. He was followed by a group of guards, but was able to enjoy and comment on how amazing the ruins were.

Obama arrived Friday night in Jordan and announced at that time the breakthrough between Turkey and Israel. Benjamin Netanyahu the Israeli Prime Minister apologized on behalf of Israel for the deaths of nine citizens of Turkey in a naval raid in 2010 on a flotilla bound for Gaza. The two countries promised the U.S. they would normalize relations.

She said that ten years ago, walking in Ethiopia barefoot, she could not have ever imagined something so powerful like this would happen.

As thousands of Israelis hope to be invited to listen to the U.S. President speak at the Jerusalem Convention Center, one young woman was lucky enough to be invited to be the U.S. president’s dinner guest.

White House organizers preparing the president’s trip to Israel included Aynaw on the list of dinner invitees. The newly crowned Miss Israel, who was born in Ethiopia appeared on the exclusive list of guests to the gala dinner that will be hosted by Shimon Peres the Israeli President in honor of the U.S. president.

The beautiful Aynaw, who is just 22, admitted on Wednesday that she had butterflies in her stomach. The White House organizers who arrived in Israel days ago, started to look for Miss Israel as soon as they arrived. On Monday, the group asked activists who were born in Ethiopia if they could help find the young woman. On Tuesday, the organizing group finally made contact with Aynaw and she was invited to dine next Thursday in Jerusalem at the President’s home.

Just 120 people are on the invitation list to the dinner, including Benjamin Netanyahu the Prime Minister, the speaker of the Knesset and the Chief of Staff of the IDF.

Aynaw was born in Gondar and raised with her brother by her mother alone, after their father was killed when she was just two years old. When she was only 12, her mother died and she and her brother eventually emigrated to Israel.

On Thursday, President Obama indicated there would be no discussion about a peace initiative for the Middle East when he travels later in March to Israel for the first time since he became President of the United States.

As part of his preparation for his trip, Obama met with Jewish community leaders in the U.S. this week at the White House. His trip did not have a goal of resolving just one specific issue of policy, said one White House official.

Previously the Obama administration had taken steps to quiet rumors that the president would use this visit to push the U.S. led effort to find peace between the Palestinians and Israel, following a failure of an initiative during Obama’s first term.

However, White House officials are setting up the trip as a way to reconnect with Benjamin Netanyahu the Prime Minister of Israel, with whom the president has had a rather delicate relationship from the time he took office in 2009 and to coordinate with Israel over key issues such as Syria and Iran.

One official at the White House said that President Obama had reiterated the country’s unshakeable support for the country of Israel and thanked the Israeli leaders for their strengthening of ties between the two countries.

A list of the Jewish Community leaders that took part in the meeting with Obama at the White House was not immediately provided. The meeting was not on the public schedule of President Obama.

Marc Stanley, one of the participants, is the chairman for the National Jewish Democratic Council. He concurred that President Obama said there would be discussions in Israel over Iran, Syria and the peace process.
