Rick Santorum has brought up 1965’s Griswold vs. Connecticut landmark case during his campaign in New Hampshire. He believed that the Supreme Court was wrong in its decided on the two landmark cases because the Constitution didn’t have a privacy right.

Romney seemed annoyed by the persistence of the questioning and at the same time gave out the idea that he didn’t know anything about issue. He asked whether the Supreme Court has decided that states do not have the right to ban contraception.

Stephanopoulos said that it did in 1965 Griswold vs. Connecticut. Romney then lectured about how Americans have the right to amend the Constitution and he would want to amend it to ban same-sex marriage. With regards to contraception, he said that it is fine and should be left alone.

A United States court ruling stating that the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell law was unconstitutional will be vacated as moot. This was the decision of a federal appeals court last Thursday. The decision came nine days after the law that banned gays from serving openly in the military was repealed. At present, the United States armed forces wouldn’t discriminate against gay men and women because of their sexual orientation.

The ruling was made by the 9th U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals and gay rights advocates said that it denied an important legal precedent that they said should be preserved. Another case regarding the right to same-sex marriage is also under appeal at the 9th Circuit.

A federal judge in California ruled that the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell law was unconstitutional. Gay advocates wanted to keep the court ruling in place even though the law has already been repealed by Congress. The appeals court said that the case is now moot because of the repeal. None of the rulings in the case could be used as legal precedent in future litigations. The decision of the appeals court leaves open the possibility that the rights of gay members of the US armed forces would be violated in the future.

President Barack Obama evaded answering questions with regards to same-sex marriages last Thursday evening in New York. The legislators are considering a measure that would legalize gay marriage in the state. Instead of taking a position on the issue, President Obama told the attendees that gay couples deserve the same legal rights as every other couple in the United States.

Obama’s stance on marriage is between a man and woman but he insisted that his view on same-sex marriage is still changing. The president timed his New York fundraising in time when the lawmakers are going to vote on whether the state will be the sixth one to allow gay marriages.

The president presents the same vibe he got when he repealed the don’t ask, don’t tell policy that banned gay people from serving in the military. The repeal was approved by Congress last December but it was a long process. Obama likened the gay marriage bill with that one.

The president had three fundraisers in one evening in Manhattan, including the gay and lesbian event where people from 22 states came and donated from $1,250 to $35,800 to benefit Obama’s reelection campaign.

Neil Patrick Harris was emcee of the event and there were other popular actors in attendance. Before Obama’s speech, Harris read the list of administration accomplishments, including the president’s decision to halt the implementation of the Defense of Marriage Act.

Governor Andrew Cuomo introduced the measure that would make same sex marriage in New York legal. At present it is one vote away from approval in the Senate. The New York Congress already approved the bill last week. Monday is the last day of the legislative session before it goes on summer recess.

The Archbishop of New York, Timothy Dolan, maintained that the Catholic Church is against same sex marriage and vows to block any bill that would redefine the meaning of marriage. He asks for a referendum on the issue. But recent polls show that there’s an overwhelming support for same sex marriage in New York. Dolan added that the bill would redefine the meaning of father, mother, husband and wife.

Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos said that there are concerns about how the religious clauses and exemptions in the bill. Though the bill doesn’t force the clergy to conduct gay marriages, the Republican lawmakers in the Senate are concerned about the legal protections.

Now that the Republicans seem to gain a legislative power in the House, several gay conservative groups are asking the GOP to bear in mind, who their friends were in the first place. Yes, it is a fact that the gay community dished out maximum number of votes for their favorite politicians. Now it’s up to the big shots to return the favor in kindness.

GOProud, a Gay Rights conservative organization has joined hands with the New American Patriots to remind Republican leaders about their promises. People are now expecting the Reps to favor gay rights, based on less intrusive and lenient government policies.

Several members of the GOProud and Tea Party group wrote a letter to John Boehner and Mitch McConnell, “On behalf of limited-government conservatives everywhere, we write to urge you and your colleagues in Washington to put forward a legislative agenda in the next Congress that reflects the principles of the Tea Party movement. This election was not a mandate for the Republican Party, nor was it a mandate to act on any social issue.”

The letter was co-signed by 17 Tea Party and GOProud members. It was supposed to be delivered to John Boehner and Mitch McConnell on November 17 – 2010, urging them to overlook the menial, “Who’s gay and who’s heading for abortion” issues. Speaking of which, Ralph King – the Tea Party Patriots leader said, “Am I going to be the best man at a same sex-marriage wedding? That’s not something I necessarily believe in. I look at myself as pretty socially conservative. But that’s not what we push through the Tea Party Patriots.”

Outside the box, there are some conservatives who regard GOProud as an organization filled with “infiltrators”. Instead of bringing an actual change, they’re using the social hot button issues to their own benefits.

The United States president, Barack Obama has long supported civil unions has not always been on the same page when it comes to same-sex marriage. Not only is he evolving, president Barack Obama told this to a group of bloggers Thursday night.“I am a strong supporter of civil unions. As you say, I have been to this point unwilling to sign on to same-sex marriage primarily because of my understandings of the traditional definitions of marriage,” Obama said.

“But I also think you’re right that attitudes evolve, including mine,” Obama said. “And I think that it is an issue that I wrestle with and think about because I have a whole host of friends who are in gay partnerships.” This comes after campaigning to end the Defense of Marriage Act. This law maintains that only one male and one female could have a recognized marriage. This law also doesn’t allow one state to recognize another’s when it comes to same-sex marriage.

“The one thing I will say today is I think it’s pretty clear where the trend-lines are going,” Obama said. But, is it really about trend, or the freedom of choice that America has provided for so many years? Either way, there’s going to be a change in the tide when it comes to same-sex marriage and state by state laws. So far 37 states adopted a voter approved state constitutional amendment that is subject to agree that only one male and one female may be married together.

President Barck Obama is changing many views for the better of man-kind as it seems lots of politicians are doing lately. No, not everybody has a personal agenda. But, let’s face it, to better off one’s self is to better off a nation as a whole. Trend setting seems to be the new political fiasco we can all admire at the right times.

Right now they do not have the authority granted to marry because of this delay. Many of the ones that want the same sex marriage are upset about this delay and feel it should not be this way.

The U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker, did an order that was 11 pages long and in the order requested that the marriages stay banned because of the landmark made on the 136th page ruling. However, there is still a major debate growing and many feel that the decision with the court shows that there should not be any reason as to why lesbians and gay men should have the same rights like everyone else.

It appears that this debate is going to continue going on as people don’t seem to be finding the right answers and what should be done. It is obvious that the gay and lesbian community is growing. A few say that if a ruling is done against them, that they’ll find somewhere else and that might hurt the state of California money wise. The state of California is already hurting with money and if this debate causes people to leave, it could have some more impact on their current situation.
