Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney wishes to finish on top of caucuses unlike four years ago. He asked his supporters in eastern Iowa to work double time as the state prepares for the country’s first presidential voting on Tuesday.

Romney spoke in front of hundreds of people at events in Clive, Davenport, Dubuque and Marion. This is the final swing of his campaign that was aimed at those who watch the evening news. Media markets reach around 80 percent of Iowans.

The former Massachusetts governor is currently in a tight race with Rick Santorum and Ron Paul. He has the resources to take on his opponents on a lengthy battle and is unfazed by predictions that he would finish second or third.

Ron Paul’s support has been decreasing and analysts predict that his chances outside Iowa are dim. On the other hand, Santorum has seen his popularity increase but he doesn’t have the machinery to compete in the national level. Romney’s supporters contend that he is the right choice to compete against President Barack Obama.

During his speeches, Romney didn’t mention any of his GOP rivals. Instead he listed economic and foreign problems that he said were evidence of President Obama’s failure. He added that Obama wanted to turn the United States into Europe but he would attempt to restore the meritocracy made by the founding fathers of the nation.

President Barack Obama’s approval ratings have been stagnant as of late and prospects of his reelection are bleak. He said that he expected that to happen because the country has gone through a tough time during his term. He added that it would be surprising to find out that people are satisfied at this point. The administration is working hard to get the country and economy back on track.

He issued the statement during an interview with CBS’ Steve Kroft for 60 Minutes last Sunday. The president compared himself to a ship captain in stormy waters. If the boat is rocking back and forth, the captain needs to know the status of the passengers so that he could adjust. He said that the the captain can’t control the weather.

Kroft did two interviews with the president last week. The first time was after his speech in Osawatomie, Kansas, where he talked about increasing income inequality in America. He called the period as a make or break moment for the middle class.

Kroft noted that there are people who criticize Obama for engaging in class warfare and his call for redistribution of wealth. A poll made by CBS/New York Times showed that 54 percent of Americans think that Obama doesn’t deserve another term.

The new Republican members of the House find themselves having a hard time raising funds for their reelection campaign. The average amount that GOP freshmen raised in the first quarter is $176,000. This is small compared to the $287,000 average amount raised by freshmen Democrats in the first quarter of 2009 and $242,000 in 2007. It was during those years when the Democrats came off big wins and tried to win new seats.

During the same time, the total amount of money raised by the House incumbents is $63.9 million. That’s an increase of 22 percent from two years ago. In the 13 crucial Republican seats that are considered as Democratic districts, the average amount collected is $204,000.

To illustrate how bad the collections for GOP freshmen are, here are some examples. Representative Daniel Webster of Florida got #29,950 in the first quarter. That’s less than the $36,784 that Democrat Alan Grayson managed to collect. Grayson didn’t even ask for money and didn’t imply that he would run again for the seat.

But party officials stated that the Republican freshmen are safe unlike the Democrats in 2007 and 2009. This is one of the reasons why the small donations are not bothering the GOP leadership.

Several Republicans expressed some criticism on President Obama’s time frame for military actions regarding Libya, as the U.S. and allies continue to bomb the country as part of the current operations in Libya.

Rep. Senator John McCain said he felt the president waited a bit longer than he should have, but that he still believes we should support both him and the troops in this endeavor. McCain, who is the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, added that he believed that had the U.S. taken action a few weeks ago before the UN put a cease fire into effect, then a no-fly zone may have been sufficient to stop Libya from going downhill.

McCain added that even still, Gadhafi is on borrowed time, and that eventually the U.S. will be able to defeat him because we are the most powerful country on Earth and Libya is merely a third or fourth rated power.

The U.S. was joined by forces from France and Great Britain in the current operation and was convinced Gadhafi wasn’t following the cease-fire that the U.N. put into effect, and are continuing the bombing of Libya military locations to encourage Gadhafi to obey the no-fly zone.

Another politician, Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman, an Independent, voiced his opinion and also said he thought Gadafi needs to be taken out of power and that it wasn’t too late to do something about the problems in Libya.

McCain too, added, that it was only a matter of waiting and that the U.S. would be able to get the Libya leader out of office.

It looks like Mitt Romney is the most transparent candidate around. Political observers say that Romney might say and do anything in his power to be the next president of the United States. But some speculate that even though he’s an old fashioned Republican, he might not have sincere beliefs.

Romney aides and allies are quoted as saying that Romney’s reputation as a phony can hurt his chances in the 2012 presidential election. The last time he ran, he tried to downplay his business background and let his campaign focus on being a social conservative. He failed that time and he could blame himself for listening to his consultants.

This time around Romney is boasting that he can create more jobs better than President Barack Obama. He doesn’t state what he’ll do to make more jobs available in the United States and just keep on repeating that he knows how to produce jobs based on his experience in the private sector.

In 2008, Romney was hit for changing his views on gay rights and abortions. People questioned his positions and asked him whether they were driven by convictions or politics. Some people might overlook his position reversals and focus on what he can do on account of his being a successful businessman. But that might not be enough to be president of the United States.

Democrats are working with liberal groups and labor unions to assemble a public backlash against the Republican proposal of cutting the funds to some of the federal programs in order to save billions of dollars. Democrats are asking union members to attend congressional meetings to question Republicans about the budget cuts.

One of the progressive advocacy groups that encourage its members to attend town hall meetings is MoveOn.org. Justin Ruben, its executive director stated that members should ask what is happening in the House these days.

This is a play straight from the Tea Party’s playbook. The conservatives used town hall meetings in August of 2009 to protest against the healthcare bill that the Democrats at that time were pushing in Congress. They accused the president of not doing enough to help the economy.

Today, the Democrats are accusing the Republicans of the same thing. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid urge the Republicans to think of creating more jobs than wasting their time and effort on pointless, symbolic votes.

A democratic strategist stated that the lesson of the midterm election is that voters want Democrats and Republicans to cooperate with each other. The best way to help the nation is to work together.

Republican Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona announced that he wouldn’t seek another term next year. Senator Kyl is the second ranking Republican leader in Senate. He is the chief vote-counter of the Republicans in the Senate.

Senator Kyl is on his third six year term in the Senate. He said that it’s time to give others the chance to serve in the Senate. He added that the decision to retire from public office is to give him an opportunity to do something else.

Before he won a seat in the Senate, he served four terms in the House. He is the key architect of the Republican agenda, which includes the push for tax cuts in recent years. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said that Kyl’s retirement is a big loss to the Republicans.

Senator Kyl is a member of the Judiciary Committee and opposed President Barack Obama’s nominations of Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. Both still managed to get Senate confirmation.

He was also a leader on Immigration and pushed for stricter border security policies. He supported former President G. W. Bush’s effort to give illegal immigrants the chance to legalize their status. Senator Kyl stated that he’ll spend his remaining time in Senate to continue on fixing the tax code and immigration policies.

We’ve heard so much about Michael Steele’s rocky reputation at the RNC. If there’s one thing that this guy should be admired for, it’s his guts to withstand all the criticism. I know, it sounds stupid at time, but then again, no one can do it better than Steele himself. The chairman of the RNC is making every inch of an effort to retain his position at the committee but the existing “fellow” members won’t let him do that easily.

Steele faces a lot of challenges because his two year tenure has been broken and shattered due to credibility and trust crises. Steele, during one of his conferences in Washington, talked about his frustrations against challengers, who gave a weird description of the Republican Party.

“You’re right — we did not have a lot of volunteers out of Washington,” he said, noting that money was funneled to state parties instead. “But we had 200,000 volunteers across the country. The idea that we didn’t fully fund it is kind of a misnomer, because we really did.”

Michael Steele has already been railroaded for making huge amounts of money disappear. Don’t know how he does it, but it definitely is NOT an act of magic. He currently faces four rivals during this electoral run. and as of right now, his party’s debt is $20 Million.

“It’s time for tough love,” said Ann Wagner, a former Bush administration official. She said the Republican National Committee was “broken, and it needs to be fixed.”

The RNC Chairman – Michael Steele is quite famous these days, and it’s certainly not in the good way. The guy is despised in the inner circles of his committee and the worst part is that he doesn’t have a good fan base at all. With only a handful of followers, Steele is “optimistic” on running the same gig for a second term. Do you think he can get away with the big seat this time around?

We have to salute Michael’s moral compass and his guts that convinced him to join the electoral run for the second term. However, the news has shocked many politicians in the highs and lows of the U.S. government. People thought and WANTED him to step aside politely, followed by his performance in the office during the last 2 years.

At its core, the big question is still hanging in the balance. Do you think that Michael Steele can pull it off this time or not? Personal opinions aside, the guy’s repo is based on the opinions of his fellow committee members. A GOP observer said, “He doesn’t have a path to victory, it’s more of an extremely steep, technical climb filled with a variety of obstacles.”

Why is Steele’s path eschewed with obstacles? Here are a couple of answers:

Steel currently has 40 supporters, out of the 168 member group of the RNC. The number “40” is not even half of what 168 is. An 85 would’ve been a little better and he’d have been in a good shape to win with half of what 168 voters are saying right now. Mike Duncan was the runner-up guy in the last RNC Chairman contest. This is why; Duncan has healthy prospects of getting nominated this time because of the recent ballot results depiction.

If you listen to Sig Rogich, a long time Republican political operative, he says that says he doesn’t think former Rep. Alaskan governor Sara Palin is a viable choice to run for president in 2012.

Rogich worked with the presidential campaigns of both Bushs, as well as Ronald Regan. He says he has several reasons why he feels it’s not possible for Palin to be elected, besides the fact that he admits he “isn’t enamored” with the Tea Party candidate.

Rogich insisted to Nevada NewsMakers TV show during an interview that he “didn’t think she was electable” and that in time everyone would understand his reasons why he thought that way.

“As a candidate nationwide I don’t think she is electable for a presidency, and I think that over time you will see reasons why,” Rogich said.
Rogich said he does not believe a clear front-runner for the GOP in the 2012 presidential election has emerged yet. Rogich was asked who he believed could run instead of Palin. He responded with former Arkansas governor Mike Hucabee and Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour as his choices for presidential candidates.

Rogich has experience picking winner candidates. He led the Republicans for Reid in the Nevada Senate race in which U.S. Sen. Harry Reid beat out his opponent Sharron Angle, to go on for a second term of office. Rogigch said he believed many people who live in Nevada, including some moderate Republications, believed Angle was too set in her ways and went with plans that weren’t always the best thing for the state.
