Sale of Guns Soar Following Election
In what has alarmed many gun control proponents, thousands of Americans are purchasing handguns, ammunition and other types of firearms. They cite concerns that President Obama might push for harsher regulation during his second term in office, or that agreement at the U.N. might affect the gun market in the U.S.
Across the nation, ammo and guns sales are increasing and at this point are two times as high as they were at the same time last year. However, those rates still do not approach the gun sales that took place just after President Obama was elected to his first term in 2008.
Nevertheless, if the current pace keeps up by gun lovers, then ammo and weapons shortages could take place. Advocates for gun control say they cannot understand why there is a rush to buy extra ammo, magazines and firearms.
One gun control proponent said that Obama did not do anything during his first term in office to make people think he would be coming after them and their guns. Prior to taking office, Obama announced that he respected the right to bear arms in the constitution.
However, after over three dozen children in Chicago were killed back in 2007, Obama also said a ban should be restored on assault weapons. Following his 2008 election, ammo and firearms were stock piled and the increase in purchases caused a temporary shortage. Almost a year went by before supplies were more plentiful and prices returned to normal.
Some firearms and ammo shoppers have expressed concerns that the president could have been holding back on big gun control changes during his first four years in office so he would ensure himself of reelection.

Obama said AK47′s belong only in the hands of soldiers, as if a high capacity magazine makes a gun any more dangerous. It’s the AK47 and AR-15′s that are selling like hotcakes. Nobody said he’s going to ban guns. They’re saying he intends to ban “assault” weapons, which he has voiced his disdain for.
Bill, what the hell are you talking about? of course the size of a magazine makes the gun more dangerous. Could you have done a columbine, Vtech, or movie theater shooting with just a six shot revolver?
Columbine shooters used post-assault weapon ban approved guns with “small cap magazine” vtech used a regular handgun and went around for an hour with handguns which he had plenty of opportunity to reload non of which would have been affected by a magazine ban, the movie theater shooter started with a pump action shotgun which most of the fatalities were caused by, the shotgun would not have been affected by a ban. He also used a high cap magazine which quickly jammed just like the Gifford shooters jammed. So in short, no, high cap magazine have had no effect on mass shootings whatsoever and yes you could use a couple six shooters and do columbine and vtech.
No, the magazine capacity doesn’t really affect how dangerous the gun is. You could easily have “done a columbine” with smaller capacity magazine. You just have more of them handy, as did those sick kids.
Paranoid and stupid white people are afraid that the black president will take their guns away from them regardless of what he says … it is just patently racist thinking in all of its element. Well as was demonstrated in the last election the changing demographics of the country shows a growing ‘minority future majority’ population which is changing the direction of the US. The dwindling white population is now hit with a ‘strange’ future so they want to hold onto their guns to defend themselves in case they are ‘attacked’ … once again another lie. They have forgotten that Barack himself is a product of an interracial relationship and the likes of faux news misinformation has screwed up their brain with ‘the british are coming’ and ‘the end is near’ …. lol. Like the late Charleston Heston once said, ‘they will have to tear my gun away from these cold cold hands’. So true to form, his cold cold hands left the earth with no guns in them.
I think you are projecting your delusional paranoid schizophrenic conspiracy beliefs on people who are legitimately concerned that Obama will somehow manage to ban assault weapons and cheap guns as he promised too during the presidential debate.
Sadly, you are so right, RLSG!
Nyer#225- One of the most deadliest shootings was committed in a country with very strict gun laws. Norway limits you to 10 rounds, same as the assault weapon ban in the united states. Norway bans the ownership of ar-15 and ak-47. Norway requires you to wait 7 years, after buying single fire weapon, before buying a semi automatic rifle. Norway requires you to get a permit and register your fire arms. Norway requires you to allow any law enforcement officer to enter you home with out warrant to inspect your fire arms when ever they see fit. Norway requires a 9 hour training course before you buy each fire arm. Norway still holds the record for most deaths from a mass shooting done with only a ranch rifle, 67.
I am for gun control, but it has to be gun control that actually works. Banning magazine size does not work, because criminals do not care about laws. Every piece of gun control law that has ever been past has only ended up with more people getting killed by fire arms. We need to treat the people that are doing the shooting not the weapons they use.
If you look around the world, people will go crazy and kill people. If you remove the guns, they will use bombs, cars, planes, and other means to reach their goal. We need to focus on healing the people that feel they need to commit these crimes not the means by which they do it. Because the means can be changed with very little planning. By taking away the freedom of one person, you are making it easier for people to take away a freedom that you enjoy. Please google the facts before reciting what you hear from people that do not care about your freedoms. Please read First they came… by Martin Niemöller and ask yourself, what really is the problem here, and piece of metal or the person that is using it.
I understand the guns don’t kill people thing, but this is America. We like our conveniences. Knives and bombs take effort, sometimes a discouraging amount. Guns are just point and shoot.
Yes they are point and shoot, but when criminals are the only ones capable of point and shoot because laws prevent law abiding citizens from owning those guns (much less carrying) they become fish in a barrel.
Gun control is necessary but not in the direction its going, supporting politicians seem more concerned with making people FEEL safer rather than making them safer. Take the eagle scout that was arrested and suspended for someone spotting a swiss army knife in his car (with camping gear) on school grounds… Do criminals/psychos care about laws? No. Do the people they intend to hurt? Yes.
Statistics show time and time again more gun control(in its current direction) = more gun crime. The big problem causing a divide here is far left liberal media fear mongering vs far right conservative/tea party propaganda on fox news scaring people into thinking they’re going to lose their rights causing hysteria on both sides.
To Nyer, as far as high cap mags vs low…The only difference between firing one 30 round mag vs 3 10 round mags is about 1.5 seconds. The word “assault weapon” is what scares people, not the actual weapon. Anyone that’s familiar with them knows that. The only difference between a .22 hunting rifle and an M-16 is the ability for more tactical attachments and ability to use a higher grain round. This assault weapon fear mongering is absurd… look at all these blue states banning collapsible butt-stocks, because a plastic butt-stock that moves back and forth is so dangerous…of course not, but an extra ban makes people feel safer.
Just another point showing the direction of current gun control has nothing whatsoever to do with MAKING people safer. Its all about making people FEEL safer at the expense of responsible gun owners without doing anything at all to actually reduce gun crime. And to all the far right people so scared cause of Obama for no reason other than fox BS… look at gun bans and laws across the country. The worst bans, taxes, fees etc facing responsible gun owners to date, have all come from Mayors & Governors. Try and get an unrestricted license to conceal carry in Boston. The mayor there made it so the police chief decides if you get one, and if you don’t know him/donate tens of thousands of dollars to the city… you don’t get one. Its LOCAL & STATE not federal government that’s going around the 2nd amendment in the highest degree.
When gun control is discussed, I always remember that the Eldrich Cleaver, the head of the Black Panthers, opposed gun control because “you know whose guns they’ll take first.”
I have a simple solution for resolving the gun control issue.
Most gun enthusiasts are offended by gun control laws because they’re good, decent, law abiding and patriotic Americans, who just happen to love guns and would never dream of using their weapons to hurt people.
Gun owners aren’t the people we need to worry about. We need to worry about criminals who have zero regard for other people or the value of human life.
I think we should establish the death penalty for using or even threatening to use a firearm in the commission of a crime.
By sticking a gun in someones face, you’re showing them that you will kill them if they don’t do what you want.
By doing this, you’re proving that you have no regard for others or appreciate the value of human life.
I say that by committing this type of act, a person forfeits their life…just stick them in a hypoxia chamber and be done with it.
This would be the single best way to thin-out the gene pool while deterring future gun violence.
This is another round of the gun industry owned NRA pumping up profits for the gun industry with a “fear the Democrat” campaign… The fact that the President appears to be a “colored man” probably DOES make some more likely to fall for the fear gambit….
If any of you would just stand around in a gun shop for a while you would hear the ridiculous comments that get spread around through the conversations. I was in one outside of Atlanta when a small woman came in to buy a pistol. She wanted one with knock down power. The clerk sold her a .44 Magnum. The woman was 5’4 max and about 110 pounds max. Surely the .44 Mag would knock two people down, the person she was shooting at, if she hit him, and she might well be knocked out on the floor. If you know what you are doing and you need to protect yourself, the size of the weapon and the number of rounds is unimportant. I go deer hunting with one round, that is all.
This brings to mind an incident two years ago when there was a county commission election in my county. One of the candidates came to the door and introduced himself as “the single most conservative T Pary Candidate!” I then asked him “what do you think we should do with all of these liberals?” His reponse was “we need to shoot them all!” I inquired of him “have you ever shot at a man or been shot at by one?” That resulted in a quick “no.” “Well, then,” I asked, “what are you going to do when you take aim at a liberal and jerk your round and miss and then the liberal pulls out a gun?” “That is easy,” he said, “Liberals don’t have guns.” My quick reply was “I spent four years in the service. I have shot at people and been shot at by people. Your big talk game changes very quickly when either the target bleeds or it shoots back.”
There are far more gun owning moderates in the Democratic party than there are true “liberals” not all progressives are hippies. The TP/GOP thinks that anyone who isn’t 100% with them is a liberal…. They’re doomed to join the Whigs on the dustheap of history– they’ve became a brand name, and fewer and fewer people want what they’re selling….
The NRA spent a BUNCH of money and political capital on the “secret agenda” ruse…. and they will continue to fleece the ignorant by promising “it’s coming soon”…… The NRA lost just about every race they tried to buy in this last election. Due to their obvious political connection to the GOP, their membership is shrinking… Far from advocating for the sportsman and enthusiest like they did years ago when I was a member– they are becoming just another right-wing PAC and industry lobby supporting the GOP.
Four years ago, these nuts were not wrong, they were not ignorant, paranoid, or misinformed when they bought cases of ammunition and countless guns to prepare for Obama’s imminent gun ban. As the conspiracy theory goes, Obama was only luring us into a false sense of calm so that in his *second* term he’d *then* take all of our guns away. And in four more years, the cognitive dissonance will once again kick in and they will insist that they were not wrong (again), just lucky.
We tolerate the ignorant far too much in America. Once upon a time, we would call out someone for being a nut, and stop listening to them. But now, we placate and give them equal time as if they had a valid point of view. The educated were once respected, but now these same nuts dismiss them as “elitist” and mock their educational or professional accomplishments. Rational informed arguments have given way to what ‘feels’ right. William F Buckley has been replaced by Joe the Plumber and FOX News.
This is the *exact* situation real Republicans like Eisenhower and Buckley warned us about if the GOP allowed the nuts an equal spot at the GOP table.
The US should copy our southern neighbor Mexico and ban guns altogether. That way we can walk safely around the neighborhood without fear.
hell that ass hole will never get my guns and i have 147 guns and 4700 rounds for each f***k all that
hell yes
