Four years ago, these nuts were not wrong, they were not ignorant, paranoid, or misinformed when they bought cases of ammunition and countless guns to prepare for Obama's imminent gun ban. As the conspiracy theory goes, Obama was only luring us into a false sense of calm so that in his *second* term he'd *then* take all of our guns away. And in four more years, the cognitive dissonance will once again kick in and they will insist that they were not wrong (again), just lucky.

We tolerate the ignorant far too much in America. Once upon a time, we would call out someone for being a nut, and stop listening to them. But now, we placate and give them equal time as if they had a valid point of view. The educated were once respected, but now these same nuts dismiss them as "elitist" and mock their educational or professional accomplishments. Rational informed arguments have given way to what 'feels' right. William F Buckley has been replaced by Joe the Plumber and FOX News.

This is the *exact* situation real Republicans like Eisenhower and Buckley warned us about if the GOP allowed the nuts an equal spot at the GOP table.

If any of you would just stand around in a gun shop for a while you would hear the ridiculous comments that get spread around through the conversations. I was in one outside of Atlanta when a small woman came in to buy a pistol. She wanted one with knock down power. The clerk sold her a .44 Magnum. The woman was 5'4 max and about 110 pounds max. Surely the .44 Mag would knock two people down, the person she was shooting at, if she hit him, and she might well be knocked out on the floor. If you know what you are doing and you need to protect yourself, the size of the weapon and the number of rounds is unimportant. I go deer hunting with one round, that is all.

This brings to mind an incident two years ago when there was a county commission election in my county. One of the candidates came to the door and introduced himself as "the single most conservative T Pary Candidate!" I then asked him "what do you think we should do with all of these liberals?" His reponse was "we need to shoot them all!" I inquired of him "have you ever shot at a man or been shot at by one?" That resulted in a quick "no." "Well, then," I asked, "what are you going to do when you take aim at a liberal and jerk your round and miss and then the liberal pulls out a gun?" "That is easy," he said, "Liberals don't have guns." My quick reply was "I spent four years in the service. I have shot at people and been shot at by people. Your big talk game changes very quickly when either the target bleeds or it shoots back."

Yes they are point and shoot, but when criminals are the only ones capable of point and shoot because laws prevent law abiding citizens from owning those guns (much less carrying) they become fish in a barrel.

Gun control is necessary but not in the direction its going, supporting politicians seem more concerned with making people FEEL safer rather than making them safer. Take the eagle scout that was arrested and suspended for someone spotting a swiss army knife in his car (with camping gear) on school grounds... Do criminals/psychos care about laws? No. Do the people they intend to hurt? Yes.

Statistics show time and time again more gun control(in its current direction) = more gun crime. The big problem causing a divide here is far left liberal media fear mongering vs far right conservative/tea party propaganda on fox news scaring people into thinking they're going to lose their rights causing hysteria on both sides.

To Nyer, as far as high cap mags vs low...The only difference between firing one 30 round mag vs 3 10 round mags is about 1.5 seconds. The word "assault weapon" is what scares people, not the actual weapon. Anyone that's familiar with them knows that. The only difference between a .22 hunting rifle and an M-16 is the ability for more tactical attachments and ability to use a higher grain round. This assault weapon fear mongering is absurd... look at all these blue states banning collapsible butt-stocks, because a plastic butt-stock that moves back and forth is so dangerous...of course not, but an extra ban makes people feel safer.

Just another point showing the direction of current gun control has nothing whatsoever to do with MAKING people safer. Its all about making people FEEL safer at the expense of responsible gun owners without doing anything at all to actually reduce gun crime. And to all the far right people so scared cause of Obama for no reason other than fox BS... look at gun bans and laws across the country. The worst bans, taxes, fees etc facing responsible gun owners to date, have all come from Mayors & Governors. Try and get an unrestricted license to conceal carry in Boston. The mayor there made it so the police chief decides if you get one, and if you don't know him/donate tens of thousands of dollars to the city... you don't get one. Its LOCAL & STATE not federal government that's going around the 2nd amendment in the highest degree.
