Micah True died what he loved doing most – running. The long-distance runner’s lifeless body was found in New Mexico near the Gila Wilderness region. True was last seen on Tuesday, when he told friends he was going to run to Hot Springs from the Wilderness Lodge. Searchers were not sure of the exact route True took so they combed the entire area.

On Saturday, the search efforts were intensified. Teams on ATVs and horseback were used along with K-9 units. Early on Saturday State Police were not positive about finding True. They described it as being very difficult since no one really knew the exact route he took on his run.

On Saturday evening, the Public Safety Department of New Mexico announced that searchers had located True’s body. The Search and Rescue commander Tom Bemis said that there were not any signs of obvious trauma. No other details at that time were released. True’s cause of death is still undetermined.

True was the main character in the best-selling nonfiction Born to Run by Christopher McDougal. Those who participated in the Copper Canyon Ultra Marathon, of which he was the race director, knew him in nearby Mexico as Caballo Blanco. McDougal reportedly helped in the search efforts for True.

The Public Safety Department of New Mexico said in a brief prepared statement, “The State Police of New Mexico thank everyone involved in the Search and Rescue.”
