Clothing retailer J. Crew Group Inc. says it is considering a potential initial public offering because of its successful Madewell brand.

The statement Thursday comes after the fighting company completed an overview of the options.

It says that a Madewell IPO, if pursued, may be finished as early as the second half of the year.

Retail veteran Mickey Drexler directed J. Crew for over a decade, helping it become a coveted fashion brand until it hit a multi-year earnings slump. He chased his last ties with the company in January.

J. Crew recently started to add a larger range of styles. Madewell has performed with its timeless clothing.
