Fortuna (NYSE: FSM) approves $109 million plant expansion as output slips

What happened

Fortuna Mining Corp. (NYSE: FSM) reported 69,665 GEO in the third quarter of 2026 and approved a $109 million S gu la expansion budget.

First nine-month production reached 214,754 GEO, and the company said it remains on track for annual guidance of 281,000 to 305,000 GEO.

S gu la produced 33,744 ounces of gold, Lindero produced 26,024 ounces, and Caylloma produced 9,897 GEO.

At S gu la, reduced equipment availability, a blockade by artisanal miners, lower head grade and lower recovery hurt output.

Lindero's gold production rose 25% from Q2 to 26,024 ounces, and Caylloma produced 247,367 ounces of silver and 11.4 million pounds of zinc.

The S gu la expansion will lift annual throughput to 2.3 million tonnes, restore recoveries to 94%, and support more than 200,000 ounces from the second half of 2028.

Why it matters

OptimistFi's case is that Fortuna works if its gold and silver ore portfolio can sustain 2025's improved cost absorption and cash generation through commodity cycles.

This filing is mixed for that view because it adds a $109 million commitment to S gu la and advances Sunbird and Diamba Sud, while quarterly output slipped.

Company GEO output fell 3.9% from Q3 2025 to 69,665, and S gu la gold output fell to 33,744 ounces from 41,683 ounces in Q2 2026.

The main caveat is timing: the S gu la expansion is scheduled for completion and commissioning in the third quarter of 2028.

What's next

Final permitting for the Sunbird Underground Project is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, with portal construction and development expected to start in the second quarter of 2027.

Diamba Sud is moving toward a final investment decision in the fourth quarter as the company completes negotiations for a tax stability agreement with the State of Senegal.

On-time permitting and commissioning would strengthen the growth case, while delays would weaken it.
